I have a confession. I am completely lost in a computer / electronics store. I am equally as helpless in a plumbing and hardware store, and don’t get me started on auto parts…
I know plants. That’s what I do. I live, eat and breathe anything that has to do with Horticulture and Gardening. It’s one of those subjects that you are constantly learning as you go, too. I’ve made most of the mistakes as well. But Gardening and Horticulture is where I live.
Why am I telling you this? Well, mostly because when I need help with a leaky faucet or a part for my car, or I am looking for a new electronic gadget, I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. I have to rely on the honest help of a professional to demystify the whole process for me. Sometimes I don’t even know WHAT I want or need, or even what questions to ask. Frankly, I often feel foolish walking into a store and seeking assistance. I’m always relieved when I get a clerk who can decipher my ramblings, make sense out of it, and help me get exactly what I need. (Sometimes it’s completely different than what I may have had in mind). But the point is, that clerk helped me to a solution, sometimes to an even better one than what I imagined. They didn’t sell me the latest, biggest gadget, they sold me what I needed.
I really appreciate that kind of service and honest care.
It’s times like that, that remind me of my role here at Shorty’s. It’s my privilege and responsibility to be “That Garden Guy”, just like my “Car Guy” or my “Plumbing Guy”.
